Gangwondo Mureung-ri, Nam-myeon, Jeongseon-gun, Gangwon-do Situated in Jeongseon, Gangwon-do, Mindungsan Mountain (1,118.8 meters) is an unusual site when compared to other national peaks. As hinted by its name's meaning "bare mountain," there are few trees near its summit. Locals also refer to it as Eoksaesan (silver grass) Mountain because of the waves of eulalia covering its sides.The mountain’s gradual slope offers an enjoyable trekking experience for hikers of all levels. In mid-October, waist-high silver grass is indeed everywhere, making it challenging for hikers to view the surrounding areas. Fortunately, certain spots near the peak offer breathtaking views of the gentle ridges and flowing hillsides.

Miinpokpo Falls (삼척 미인폭포)

Gangwondo 77-162, Munuijae-ro, Dogye-eup, Samcheok-si, Gangwon-do Miinpokpo Falls, located near Taebaek-si, has various size waterfalls from small to large. There's a sad legend on why the waterfall got its name. There is a tomb of a beautiful woman near the waterfall, who jumped to her death after losing two husbands through early death. There's also a valley that's called the Grand Canyon of Korea nearby. It takes approximately 15 minutes to get to the fall from Yeoraesa Temple parking lot on foot through 300 meters of trekking.

Micheongolgyegok Valley (미천골계곡)

Gangwondo Guryongnyeong-ro, Seo-myeon, Yangyang-gun, Gangwon-do Micheongolgyegok Valley starts from the Yangyang area and ends right before Guryongnyeong Pass. With not many visitors here, the valley is left in a pristine condition. The area is famous for its rich forest, clean water, uniquely shaped rocks, wild flora and fauna, underground mineral water, cultural heritages of the ancient SIlla kingdom, locally produced honey and other forest products. The Micheongolgyegok Valley Recreational Forest is 5,652,000㎡ in size filled with broadleaf trees. At the entrance of the valley is Seollimwon Temple Site, which was originally established under the reign of King Beopheung of Silla and then closed at the end of the Goryeo dynasty. Other relics include a stone lamp, 3-story stone pagoda, Honggakseonsa Monk Pagoda, and a stupa.

Micheongol Recreational Forest (국립 미천골자연휴양림)

Gangwondo 115 Micheongol-gil, Seo-myeon, Yangyang-gun, Gangwon-do This recreational forest is located at the foot of Guryongnyeong Pass, which connects Yangyang-gun with Hongcheon-gun, along Micheongol Valley. This 12 km-long valley creates waterfalls throughout the forest, both small and large, and feeds many varieties of trees including birch, ash, maple sap, and dogwood. In addition to the Forest Cultural Rest Center, campground, and auto campground, the forest also includes a historic site, a Silla-era Seollimwon Temple Site. Seollimwon Temple was a Seon (Zen) Buddhist temple complex built during the Unified Silla period, and the site of Treasures like the “Three-story Stone Pagoda at Seollimwon Temple Site, Yangyang.” Many forest-themed experience programs are available in the recreational forest: “Forest Education, Forest Guided Tour,” which brings one closer to the nature in the forest, and “A Beautiful Trip in Person,” which offers members of marginalized communities a chance to connect with nature, are the examples of such programs. There is a 6.2 km-long (round-trip) mountain trekking road in the forest, and a 12 km-long forest road (round-trip) that takes one from Complex 3 of the Forest House to Bulbaragi Mineral Spring.

Gangwondo 72, Daema 1-gil, Cheorwon-gun, Gangwon-do Located in the northern area of South Korea, Baengmagoji Battlefield was one of the bloodiest battlefields during the Korean War. The communist Chinese army launched a major offensive attack for 10 days on October 6, 1952 during the Battle of Baengmagoji, which can be translated into the Battle of White Horse Highlands. Due to this battle, the communist Chinese army suffered around 14,000 casualties and the army completely collapsed while the 9th Infantry Division won the Battle of Baengmagoji and got the nickname “White Horse.” After the battle, the area gave off a bad smell because of the dead bodies. The mountain area lost its original shape due to the severe battle and as a result the area was named “Baengmagoji” as it was said to resemble a white horse (baengma) lying down.

Manhae Village (만해마을)

Gangwondo 91, Manhae-ro, Inje-gun, Gangwon-do Manhae Village was established as a training center and memorial hall for national activist Monk Manhae Han Yongun, revered for his literary and philosophical inspiration, as well as his devotion to the nation and Korean people during the Democracy Movement.

Mangyeongdae Pavilion (만경대)

Gangwondo Gongdan 4-ro, Donghae-si, Gangwon-do Mangyeongdae Pavilion, located on the shore of the East Coast, one-kilometer east of Donghae City Hall, was built in 1613 while old Joseon was under the rule of King Gwanghaegun. However, the pavilion was destroyed by rainstorms and later rebuilt by the Samcheok Kim family some 60 years ago. While offering a spectacular view of sea to the east, the pavilion also offers a refreshing view of expansive pine forests to the north. To the west, one can enjoy a magnificent view of Dutasan Mountain beyond the pavilion’s back lawn as well as the Jeoncheon Stream flowing into the East Sea alongside a steep cliff-wall. As only Jukseoru Pavilion of Samcheok matched its view, poets of former times are said to have frequented Mangyeongdae Pavilion.

Mangsang Beach (망상해변)

Gangwondo 6270-10, Donghae-daero, Donghae-si, Gangwon-do Mangsang Beach is sought out by many families and tourists for its beautiful white sand, lush pine forest, shallow waters, and location in a neighborhood full of convenient facilities. Mangsang Beach is located 3 kilometers north from Mukho Port and it represents the east coast, along with Okgye and Gyeongpo Beaches.

Maengbanghaebyeon Beach (맹방해변)

Gangwondo 228-239 Maengbanghaebyeon-ro, Samcheok-si, Gangwon-do Maengbanghaebyeon Beach is located 7 kilometers from downtown Samcheok and was developed as a tourist attraction. During summer, there are various beach events such as the Myeongsasimni Race, bare-hand trout catching contest, and more. The area quickly became popular after featuring as a filming site for BTS' Butter album jacket.

Lohas Park & Wacapuca (로하스파크&와카푸카)

Gangwondo 162-28, Jageundosa-gil, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do Lohas Garden & WacaPuca is an eco-themed park located 700 meters above sea level in the highlands of Pyeongchang, Gangwon-do Province. Sitting in the most beautiful national forest of Phyeongchang (Total area 3,305,785㎡ Structural area 396,694㎡), Lohas Garden offers the most natural scenic views in Korea.

Lee Hyo-seok Culture Village (이효석문화마을)

Gangwondo Wongil-ri, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do Lee Hyo-seok Culture Village is the place where the author Lee Hyo-seok (pen name “Gasan”) was born and raised. The village is also the setting of the author’s novel "When the Buckwheat Blossoms,” one of the most celebrated Korean short stories to date. In 1990, the village place was designated ‘first national cultural village’ by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The village is comprised of the author's birth house, a water mill, Gasan Park, Lee Hyo-seok Memorial Hall, and a buckwheat museum. During the peak of the blossoming season in early fall, the annual Lee Hyo-seok Cultural Festival takes place and visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery of snow-white fields of buckwheat flowers. Lee Hyo-seok Cultural Festival commemorates the modern Korean writer and features buckwheat-themed programs. Events include a Hyo-seok essay contest, traditional performances, a costume parade, a photo contest, and "When the Buckwheat Blossoms" plays and related performances. During the festival, visitors can enjoy makguksu (buckwheat noodles) and memil buchim (buckwheat pancakes) and tour the locations that appear in the famous short story.

Gangwondo 33-17 Imwonhanggu-ro, Wondeok-eup, Samcheok-si, Gangwon-do Lady Suro Heonhwa Park is renowned as a prime location for sunrise viewing. According to legend, in the 8th Century, Lady Suro, celebrated for her beauty, was abducted by a dragon from the sea. The locals sang a song pleading for her release, and as the legend goes, Lady Suro was miraculously returned to land. This song, known as the Haega (Song of the Sea), is commemorated by the park. Starting from Imwon Port in Samcheok, it takes approximately 20 minutes on foot to reach the park's summit.

Gangwondo 555 Hanbando-ro, Hanbando-myeon, Yeongwol-gun, Gangwon-do Korean Peninsula Terrain was formed by soil transported from upstream to the curvature of the confluence of two rivers. It is often referred to as Mini Korean Peninsula because it resembles the shape of the Korean Peninsula. It is said to have this appearance due to the erosion of the incised stream flowing around the terrain. It takes a 15-minute walk along the pine forest trail for about 800 meters from the parking lot to reach there. The well-maintained trail with many wildflowers and plants creates a welcoming atmosphere. Upon arriving at the observation point, visitors will be amazed by the beautiful curved river and the topography taking the same shape as the Korean Peninsula. Designated as the Gangwon Paleozoic National Geopar, this area has excellent geographical value because it shows the characteristics of the incised mender river as well.

Kook Soon Dang Juhyangro (국순당 횡성공장)

Gangwondo 975, Gangbyeon-ro, Hoengseong-gun, Gangwon-do Juhyangro, meaning "a path of alcoholic flavor," is the name of the tour route around Kook Soon Dang's Hoengseong distillery. The traditional liquor produced by the distillery captures the clean air and water and the sincere devotion of its producers. The distillery offers tours as well as tasting programs, and product sales.

Kim Satgat Historic Site (난고 김삿갓 유적지)

Gangwondo 216-22 Gimsatgat-ro, Gimsatgat-myeon, Yeongwol-gun, Gangwon-do Nango Kim Satgat (1807-1863) was a prominent literary figure who traveled extensively across the Korean Peninsula, leaving behind a rich legacy of literary works. His sobriquet “Satgat” originated from his habitual wearing of a “satgat” (a traditional Korean hat) and his preference for introducing himself by this name. The historic site dedicated to him includes several key features: the house where he once lived, his tomb, a literary museum that showcases his life and works, and a sculpture of the poet.

Kim Hain Art Hall Pension (김하인 아트홀 국화꽃향기)

Gangwondo 120-4, Jajakdoseonsa-gil, Goseong-gun, Gangwon-do Famous as a filming site for the popular K-drama "Autumn in My Heart (2000)," Kim Hain Art Hall opened in October 2008 in dedication to Kim Hain, the novelist of "The Scent of Love." The center serves as a cultural space for students and general visitors. Spread over four floors, Kim Hain Art Hall doubles as an experience center and a pension, featuring a literature lecture room, author introduction room, a screening room, and moviestar room.
