Chungcheongbukdo 14, Jungang-ro hongmun 2-gil, Yeonpung-myeon, Goesan-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do After the nationwide repression of Catholicism in 1791, a group of Catholics came to what is today known as Yeonpung Sanctuary to practice their religion in secret before they were discovered and executed in 1801. Today, Yeonpung Sanctuary is a Catholic sanctuary dedicated to the martyrs. Yeonpung Sanctuary has a Catholic church, a crucifix, and a sculpture and tomb of Hwang Seokdu (Luke; 1813-1866), a saint born in Yeonpung and martyred as a Catholic.

Yeongok Valley (연곡계곡)

Chungcheongbukdo Sanggye-ri, Jincheon-eup, Jincheon-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do Yeongok Valley, situated south of Malloesan Mountain in Jincheon, is adjacent to a picturesque lake formed by damming the Seongamcheon Stream. This verdant, forested valley, with its clear water sounds, birdsongs, and refreshing breeze, offers a serene escape, perfect for cooling both body and mind during the summer. Additionally, nearby shops and restaurants, pensions, and Malloesan Ecological Park provide further opportunities for exploration and enjoyment.

Yeongdong Yeongguksa Temple (영국사 (영동))

Chungcheongbukdo 225-35, Yeonggukdong-gil, Yeongdong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do Yeongguksa Temple is nestled at the foot of Cheontaesan Mountain (714.7 meters), at the boundary between Chungcheongbuk-do and Chungcheongnam-do. Visitors must trek through a valley to reach the temple, passing waterfalls and rocks. The time of Yeongguksa Temple's construction is not clearly known but it is said to have been built around the late Silla period, during the time of King Seonjong. The temple prospered when the State Preceptor Wongak, who completed the Cheontae, one of Buddhist orders from Daegak Guksa Uicheon, came to the temple in the middle of the Goryeo period. It continued to flourish until the early Joseon era and then took a dive due to the rule of anti-Buddhism. Despite the situation at the time, the temple's reputation as one of the noted temples remained. However, the situation worsened in the early twentith century, to the point of near closure. The temple was reconstructed by Jubongjosa Monk in 1934. As of now, the temple contains various treasures including the Stele for State Preceptor Wongak, Stupa of Yeongguksa Temple, Three-story Stone Pagoda of Yeongguksa Temple, Three-story Stone Pagoda at Mangtapbong Peak of Yeongguksa Temple. In addition, Bell-shaped Stupa and Round-shaped Stupa, regional tangible cultural assets, are situated in the temple site.

Yeongdong Wine Tunnel (영동 와인터널)

Chungcheongbukdo 30, Yeongdong healing-ro, Yeongdong-eup, Yeongdong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do Yeongdong Wine Tunnel is a 420 m-long tunnel within the Rainbow Healing Tourist Site. It was built as a wine storage because caves present ideal conditions for wine storage. Here, visitors can browse the Wine Culture Hall, which details the history of wines; Yeongdong Wine Hall, which sells wine produced in Yeongdong; and a military magazine dating back to the Japanese Occupation. A wine festival is held every October.

Yeongdong Bidangang Forest Village (영동 비단강숲마을)

Chungcheongbukdo 20-27, Sudu 1-gil, Yangsan-myeon, Yeongdong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do Yeongdong Bidangang Forest Village is a pure farming village which was at the historical border between the Silla and Baekje kingdoms. Also located nearby is Yeongguksa Temple, where King Gongmin escaped from the Red Turban troops during the Goryeo period. Created by the Geumgang River that flows like silk around Bonghwasan Mountain, the village is surrounded by breathtaking scenery, keeping Mother Nature clean so organisms including marsh snails and mandarin fish can live. In the village, plenty of hands-on activities such as catching snails in the crystalline water like a treasure hunter and riding a tandem bike are available to make a valuable memory. Not only these activities, visitors can also take a rest within the ambience of Bidangang River and pick sweet potatoes and grapes, giving the pleasure of harvesting. Other programs including making a wooden doorplate, wine foot-bathing, flying a pungdeung (lantern), and herb soap-making are offered.

Woraksan National Park (월악산국립공원)

Chungcheongbukdo 1647, Mireuksonggye-ro, Jecheon-si, Chungcheongbuk-do Woraksan National Park is located along the Baekdudaegan Mountain Range between Sobaeksan and Songnisan Mountains. The rugged mountain is softened by the waterfalls and small pools found within the valleys. The area was designated as a national park on December 31, 1984. The mountain is surrounded by Chungjuho Lake to the north, the Eight Scenic Views of Danyang and Sobaeksan Mountain to the east, and Mungyeongsaejae Pass and Songnisan Mountain to the south. The main peak of Woraksan National Park is Yeongbong Peak, reaching an altitude of 1,097 meters above sea level. The path there is steep, with sections of rock stretching 150 meters in x_height. There is also a 4-kilometer-long path circling the base rock.

Wollyubong Peak (The Eight Sights of Hancheon) [월류봉(한천팔경)]

Chungcheongbukdo 47, Wonchondong 1-gil, Hwanggan-myeon, Yeongdong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do Wollyubong Peak is one of The Eight Sights of Hancheon, a collection of eight beautiful sights around Wollyubong Peak on the eastern side of Yeongdong-gun. The Eight Sights of Hancheon were named by Song Si-yeol (1607-1689), a prominent Joseon-era politician. Wollyubong Trail provides easy access to the area's scenery. Azalea and royal azalea in springtime and a colorful landscape with maple and other fall colors in autumn make it a more beautiful place.

Wine Korea (와인코리아)

Chungcheongbukdo 662, Yeongdonghwanggan-ro, Yeongdong-eup, Yeongdong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do Wine Korea is the only winery in Korea that has a vineyard and produces wine products with its own brand. Opened in 1995, the winery expanded its facilities in 2001 to become an all-in-one stop. Visitors can tour the winery, wine gallery and cellar, taste-test various wines, or enjoy a footbath as part of the many programs available. The winery also has a connection with KORAIL, operating the special wine-themed train.

Ullidan Street (운리단길)

Chungcheongbukdo 201-1 Saun-ro, Heungdeok-gu, Cheongju-si, Chungcheongbuk-do Ullidan Street connects Cheongju Early Printing Museum with Uncheon & Sinbong-dong Community Center. In less than a kilometer, charming cafes, restaurants, and shops have opened one after another, giving the street its name and elevating it to a popular hangout in Cheongju. This street is also the location of the store Nation's Best Banchan, which was run by Jeon Do-yeon’s character in "Crash Course in Romance (2023)." Don’t miss the Yennal Yetjip Goldongpum, an antique store and one of the oldest stores on Ullidan Street. True to its name, the store features old furniture, transistor radios, and other antique items full of nostalgia.

Uirimji Reservoir (제천 의림지와 제림)

Chungcheongbukdo 33 Uirimji-ro, Jecheon-si, Chungcheongbuk-do Uirimji Reservoir was created during the Three Kingdoms Era. Due to its long history, it is one of the most famous reservoirs in Chungcheong-do. The reservoir is 1.8 kilometers in circumference and 151,470 square meters in water surface area and has a depth of 8-13 meters. It supplies water to nearby farmland and was one of the 3 major reservoirs of the Three Kingdoms Era along with Byeokgolje of Gimje and Susanje of Miryang. With a water gate built of onggi (earthenware), Uirimji is also a valuable historical site for studying farming methods. The reservoir is one of the main tourist attractions of Jecheon. Attractions around the reservoir include Yeonghojeong Pavilion and Gyeonghoru Pavilion. The traditional beauty of the structures is accented by the neighboring ancient pine and willow trees and the 30 meter-high waterfall.

Taksajeong Pavilion (탁사정)

Chungcheongbukdo 478 Jewon-ro, Bongyang-eup, Jecheon-si, Chungcheongbuk-do Taksajeong Pavilion, located at the bend of Jecheon Stream in the valley, is celebrated for its picturesque scenery of clear water, sand, and pine trees. It's believed that these pine trees were transported from Jeju Island in the 16th century. The combination of a cool valley breeze, the stream's vivid blue, and a quaint waterfall, alongside the ancient pine trees, creates a serene harmony. This spot is also well-known as a favorite camping site in Jecheon.

Suyanggae Light Tunnel (단양 수양개빛터널)

Chungcheongbukdo 390, Suyanggaeyujeok-ro, Danyang-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do Built during the Japanese occupation, Suyanggae Tunnel has a length of 200 meters and x_width of 5 meters. The tunnel was neglected for many year until recent rennovation into a light tunnel. The light tunnel consist of updated videos, sound system and LED media facade, drawing visitors both locally and internationally.

Soseonam Recreational Forest (소선암자연휴양림)

Chungcheongbukdo 15, Daejam 2-gil, Danyang-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do Soseonam Recreational Forest is located in Danyang, near one of the Eight Scenic Sites of Danyang. It is replete with flowing streams, verdant landscape and surrounded by many famous landmarks, including Chungjuho Lake, Sainam Rock, Duaksan and Doraksan Mountains, and Jebibong Peak. The forest is easily accessible from the expressway, making it a popular vacation spot throughout the year, with beautiful scenery in every season.

Suokpokpo Waterfall (수옥폭포)

Chungcheongbukdo 19 Suokjeong 1-gil, Yeonpung-myeon, Goesan-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do Originating from Sobaeksan Mountain, the stream cascades into a picturesque valley and culminates in a refreshing waterfall. As it plunges from a x_height of approximately 20 meters, one can't help but feel invigorated. Suokpokpo Waterfall is a three-tiered cascade, with the upper layers resembling steps. The harmonious union of the waterfall and pavilion creates a scenic view frequently sought after in film and historical drama productions.

Suokjeong Tourist Area (수옥정관광지)

Chungcheongbukdo 127-1 Suokjeong-gil, Yeonpung-myeon, Goesan-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do Suokjeong Tourist Area is a scenic destination nestled within pristine natural landscapes. Surrounded by renowned Korean mountains such as Joryeongsan and Sinseonbong, visitors can enjoy sights such as Suokpokpo Falls and Yeonpungsaejae Pass. The area around Suokjeong Reservoir offers plenty of attractions, including waterside eco park and outdoor water playground.
