2025.10.19　 Gyeongsangbukdo　

Gyeongsangbukdo Osang-ri, Sangju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do Cheongnyongsa Temple in Sangju, Gyeongsangbuk-do is located atop the sheer cliff of Birobong Peak. The city of Sangju is in fact famous for its many ancient temples. To go to this temple, visitors must either climb up the steep path or cross over the Nakdonggang River. Among the tourist attractions along the nearly 510-kilometer-long river is Gyeongcheondae Terrace, a famously beautiful spot; Cheongnyongsa, although small and remote is known for its beauty as well. It has been estimated that the temple was built in 1674, during the Joseon period. Pass the Cheongnyongsa Temple Yard and walk along the narrow trail, and visitors will be amazed at the magnificence of the winding Nakdonggang River buttressed by sheer cliff walls.

Samseonam Rocks [National Geopark] (삼선암 (울릉도, 독도 국가지질공원))

Gyeongsangbukdo Cheonbu-ri, Buk-myeon, Ulleung-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do Samseonam Rocks is comprised of three rock pillars off the northern coast of beautiful Ulleungdo Island. The sea stacks were formed by waves breaking down a block of columner joints over time, leaving the three remaing stacks behind. The sides of the stacks are dotted with many holes, resembling honeycomb. The rocks name, meaning "Three Hevenly Maiden Rocks," comes from a myth that three heavenly maidens were so enraptured by the beauty of Ulleungdo that they missed their curfew to return to heaven and were thereby punished by being turned to stone.

Samsa Marine Park (삼사해상공원 (삼사해상산책로))

Gyeongsangbukdo 120-7, Haesanggongwon-gil, Yeongdeok-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do Samsa Marine Park is located south of Gangguhang Port, overlooking the expansive East Sea. Thanks to its picturesque beauty and various facilities, the park is a favorite weekend picnic spot for families. Major facilities include Theme Land, Happy Land, a performance hall, bungalows, restaurants, and stores. There is even an artificial waterfall and a 20 ton-rock carved with floral patterns that add to the park's unique beauty. Another must-see sight for visitors is Manghyangtap Pagoda, which was set up by those originally from North Korea. Every year on New Year’s Eve, a bell ringing ceremony takes place during the area’s sunrise festival.

Sajabawi Rock (사자바위)

Gyeongsangbukdo Namseo-ri, Ulleung-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do The western coast of Ulleungdo Island is perfect for taking in the sunset; Sajabawi Rock in Namyang-ri is easily one of the most accessible places, located right next to the coastal road. The scenery is complete with squid drying in the the last rays of the sun at the coastal village, and boats heading heading out to catch more squid when the sun finally sets.

Sabang Memorial Park (사방기념공원)

Gyeongsangbukdo 1712 Haean-ro, Heunghae-eup, Buk-gu, Pohang-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do Sabang Memorial Park was opened in 2007 to celebrate 100 years of the "sabang movement" (planting trees on empty hills & mountains) in Korea. The memorial park offers exhibitions of the grand-scale sabang project taken on by the Park Chung-hee administration in 1975-1980.

Rock-carved Standing Buddha in Icheon-dong, Andong (안동 이천동 마…

Gyeongsangbukdo Icheon-dong, Andong-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do Maaekseobulsang (Rock-carved Standing Buddha) in Icheon-dong, Andong is also referred to as Jebiwon Statue due to the small temple of the same name nearby. This statue is unique as the head and the body are not carved from the same rock. The head was carved from a different rock then placed over a large rock relief of the Buddha's body. This type of technique is frequently found in those built during the Goryeo dynasty. The distinct features and carving methods that can be observed from this particular statue are speculated to be from the 11th century. Although there is a small amount of damage on the back of the head, the statue is well-preserved overall.

Robo Life Museum (로보라이프 뮤지엄)

Railway Forest & The Garden of Fire (철길숲 & 불의정원)

Gyeongsangbukdo A 4.3-kilometer stretch of railroad between Hyoja Station and the old Pohang Station that fell into disuse after nearly 100 years of operation due to the opening of the KTX Pohang Station in 2015. The railroad track runs through residential areas to create an urban forest, and water features like wall streams, musical fountains, and steel artworks began to attract tourists, creating a prime example of future-oriented urban regeneration and green ecological city plan. The Garden of Fire came about as a natural gas spring from 200-meter under sea level was ignited during the construction work for the Railway Forest. The flame was expected to be extinguished, but as the flame persisted, a garden was built around the flame to create a unique view.

Pohang Steelworks (포항제철소)

Gyeongsangbukdo 6261, Donghaean-ro, Nam-gu, Pohang-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do Pohang Steelworks, also known as POSCO, was built at Yeongilman Bay from 1970 until 1981 to shift the focus of the country's growth engine from the agriculture-oriented primary industry of the 1960s to the heavy chemical industry. Photography within the factory is prohibited, making a visit here key to fully experiencing all POSCO has to offer.

Pohang Marine Park Character Theme Park (포항해상공원 캐릭터테마파크)

Gyeongsangbukdo 474-11, Seodong-ro, Nam-gu, Pohang-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do Pohang Marine Park Character Theme Park is located in Songdo-dong, Nam-gu, Pohang-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do. This new landmark of Pohang aims to move toward the future of the maritime tourism city. In the park, there are characters such as Turning Mecard, Hello Carbot, SofyRuby, and Gaspard et Lisa. At night, there is a musical fountain that spouts water with colorful lights. Additional sightseeing spots include the Pohang Canal, Songdo Forest Theme Street, and Jukdo Market located nearby.

Pohang Deokdong Culture Village (포항 덕동문화마을)

Gyeongsangbukdo 210 Odeok-ri, Gibuk-myeon, Buk-gu, Pohang-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do Pohang Deokdong Culture Village is a picturesque traditional village, renowned for its stunning natural beauty and impeccably preserved old houses. This village has its roots in the Imjin War era, when Jeong Munbu, a civil official of the Joseon dynasty, bestowed his wealth upon his grandson-in-law after returning to Jeonju at the war's conclusion. The village is home to significant cultural properties, including Aeeundang Old House and Saujeong Old House, Yonggyejeong Pavilion, and the Deokgyeseodang Village School. It also houses a Folk Museum, a repository of historical artifacts handed down through generations. The museum's collection includes items such as traditional banknotes, slave ownership papers, and gat (Korean traditional hats), offering a window into the rich cultural heritage and history of the village and its families.

Pohang Canal (포항운하)

Gyeongsangbukdo 1040, Huimang-daero, Nam-gu, Pohang-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do Pohang Canal, completed in January 2014, cuts between Pohang's Songdo-dong and Jungdo 1-dong, connecting the waters under Dongbindaegyo Bridge with Hyeongsangang River to the south. The canal has a total length of 1.3km, adding on to the 8~10 km long seafaring road of Pohang. The canal is a restoration of an old water path, and the citizens have welcomed the eco-friendly construction as a community park. Many people enjoy walking along the canal or the romantic experience of riding on a cruise ship through the canal.

Pocheongyegok Valley (포천계곡)

Gyeongsangbukdo Hwajuk-ri, Seongju-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do Pocheongyegok Valley is a representative valley of Gayasan Mountain with clear water and a lush forest. The valley used to be a learning place for local scholars in the old days. Eungwa Lee Wonjo, a civil minister and a great scholar during the late Joseon period, spent the later years of his life at Mangwijeong Pavilion located along the upper steam near a small waterfall. The beautiful valley scenery stretches over 7 kilometers.

Gyeongsangbukdo 716-64 Gatbawi-ro 81-gil, Wachon-myeon, Gyeongsan-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do Located east of Daegu downtown, Palgongsan Mountain (altitude 1,192.3 meters) was called both Jungaksan and Buaksan Mountain during the Silla period. The mountain has many ancient temples and historical sites such as the Gatbawi Stone Buddha, Wonhyosa Temple, Cheonseongsa Temple and Bulgulsa Temple.
