Hyangnamu Tree in Changdeokgung Palace (창덕궁 향나무)

Seoul 99, Yulgok-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul Hyangnamu or 'Aromatic Tree' in Changdeokgung Palace is estimated to be about 700 years old, meaning it had likely been planted before the palace was built. It stands 12m in x_height, measures 5.9m in girth around the roots, and has branches spreading in all four directions. It is designated and protected as a National Natural Monument.

Hongju Millennium Monument (홍주천년기념탑)

Chungcheongnamdo Ogam-ri, Hongseong-eup, Hongseong-gun, Chungcheongnam-do The Hongju Millennium Monument was created in 2018 to commemorate the past one thousand years of history in Hongseong (previously called Hongju), while also looking to the future and the next one thousand years. The entire monument is shaped like an hourglass, with historical figures, cultural assets and specialty products of the area at the top, and a time capsule embedded at the bottom of the monument, set to be opened in 2118.

Hyangjeokbong Peak (Deogyusan Mountain) (향적봉(덕유산))

Jeollabukdo 1 Deoksan-ri, Anseong-myeon, Muju-gun, Jeonbuk-do Hyangjeokbong Peak, standing at an elevation of 1,614 meters, is the highest peak of Deogyusan Mountain. It is an ideal destination for hiking year-round, but particularly renowned for its breathtaking winter scenery, earning a reputation as a popular spot for snow-covered mountain hikes. Visitors can reach the summit of Hyangjeokbong Peak by taking a gondola from the nearby Muju Resort to Seolcheonbong Peak, then embarking on a roughly 20-minute hike from Seolcheonbong Peak. Even beginners can enjoy the fantastic views of Deogyusan Mountain without much difficulty, contributing to its popularity.

Hyanghohaebyeon Beach (향호해변)

Gangwondo Hyangho-ri, Jumunjin-eup, Gangneung-si, Gangwon-do Hyanghohaebyeon Beach is a white sandy beach backed by pine forest complete with a campground. The beach is connected to Jumunjinhaebyeon Beach and has become a must-visit attraction in Gangneung after featuring on BTS' "Spring Day" album jacket. The bus stop was made for filming, but remains as a photo zone.

Hongjecheon Artificial Waterfall (홍제폭포)

Seoul Yeonhui-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul Hongjecheon Artificial Waterfall is located along Hongjecheon Stream in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul. The waterfall was built in 2011 and is 25 meters tall and 60 meters wide. Despite being a man-made waterfall, the design and construction were so well-done that many find it hard to believe it wasn't a naturally formed waterfall. The area around the waterfall features various places for citizens and visitors to relax, while there are many cafes and cultural spaces in the area to make a visit more enjoyable.

Honghyeon Village (남해 홍현마을)

Gyeongsangnamdo 9-7 Nammyeon-ro 353beon-gil, Nam-myeon, Namhae-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do The colorful Honghyeon Village was once called Rara because many conches, called sora in Korean, were caught here for living. Later the village was named Honghyeon Village due to its location next to Rainbow Hill. Renowned for its excellent water quality, the village held Korea’s first abalone festival in 1999. It was selected as one of the “100 Rural Villages to Live and Visit” by the Rural Development Administration.

Hongdo Village (홍도마을)

Chungcheongnamdo 53-2 Hongdo 1-gil, Namil-myeon, Geumsan-gun, Chungcheongnam-do Hongdo Village in Geumsan has long been famous for having many peach trees. These days, the village is also known for the abundance of ginseng and medicinal herbs grown here. The village hosts a festival every April which sees many tourists flock to the village. Nearby attractions include Sibipokpo Falls, Jinaksan Mountain, and a famous driving course by Yongdam Dam.

Hwayang Valley (Hwayangdonggyegok Valley) (화양구곡 (화양동계곡))

Chungcheongbukdo 78, Hwayangdong-gil, Cheongcheon-myeon, Goesan-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do Hwayang Valley, located 32 kilometers east from Cheongju, was designated Songnisan National Park in 1975. The vivid green mountains and clear waters make it a highly sought after tourist spot. The nearby Seonnyudonggyegok Valley, just 7 kilometers away, is also a huge draw for travelers. Hwayang Valley is composed of various shaped rocks such as Cheomseongdae Observatory, Neungundae Observatory, Waryongam Rock and Eupgungam Rock. Well-known statesman from the Joseon Dynasty, Song Si-yeol, visited the valley and wept for King Hyojong offering his final bow. This rock where he cried was then named Eupgungam Rock meaning ‘crying bow’ Rock. Waryongam Rock gets its name from its shape, which is said to look like a wriggly dragon. Cheomseongdae Observatory was used in order to forecast weather patterns.

Hwawon Park (화원동산)

Jeollanamdo 9-8, Hongdo 1-gil, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do Hongdo Island is a picturesque island located about a 2-hour and 30-minute ferry ride from Mokpo Harbor. The island earned its name due to its striking red appearance during sunset. It boasts stunning rock formations, coastal cliffs, and clear blue seas, creating a beautiful natural landscape. Designated as a protected area with rare plants and animals, it is recognized as a natural monument. One of the best ways to experience Hongdo Island is by taking a sightseeing boat tour to explore its surrounding 33 rocky islets and cliffs.

Hwasun Golden Sand Beach (화순 금모래 해변)

Jeollanamdo Goindol 1-ro, Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do The Hwasun Dolmen Site is located near the waterfalls of the mountain pass linking Dogok-myeon of Hyosan-ri and Chunnyang-myeon of Daesin-ri. According to experts, 135 of the 980 stones in Dogok-myeon Hyosan-ri are dolmen. There are also about 100 damaged stone tables that still maintain their original form. What makes the Hwasun dolmens special is that in such a small district there are as many as 596 dolmen, including Korea’s biggest stone table. Acknowledging the importance of the cultural assets, the Hwasun Dolmen Site was registered as World Heritage No. 997 in year 2000 along with Gochang and Ganghwa Dolmens.

Hongcheon Palbongsan Mountain (팔봉산(홍천))

Gangwondo 1124 Hanchigol-gil, Seo-myeon, Hongcheon-gun, Gangwon-do Hongcheon's Palbongsan Mountain, reaching an elevation of 328 meters, is distinctive for its profile resembling eight peaks aligned side by side. The hiking trail predominantly features rocky sections that require careful navigation, including parts with rope-assisted climbs and steep ladders. For this ascent, essential hiking gear such as gloves and sturdy shoes are more advisable than tools like hiking poles.

Hwaseong Yungneung and Geolleung Royal Tombs (화성 융릉과 건릉)

Gyeonggido 21, Hyohaeng-ro 481beon-gil, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do Yungneung and Geolleung Royal Tombs refer to a pair of royal tombs. The complex also contains the History Center. Yungneung houses the remains of King Jangjo (1735-1762; also known as Crown Prince Sado) and Queen Heongyeong (1735-1816; Lady Hyegyeong of the Pungsan Hong clan), while Geolleung houses the remains of King Jeongjo (1752-1800), King Jangjo’s son, and Queen Hyoui (1753-1821). King Jeongjo is said to have expressed his wish to be buried here to stay close to his father.
