Gangwongamyeong Provincial Office, Wonju (원주 강원감영)

Gangwondo Ilsan-dong, Wonju-si, Gangwon-do Gangwongamyeong Provincial Office, dating back to the Joseon era, is celebrated for its stunning night views. Originally serving as the office for the provincial governor of Gangwon-do during the Joseon period, it functioned in this capacity for 500 years. Presently, only a few structures, including the Seonhwadang Hall, still stand. The site underwent restoration and was opened to the public in 2018.

Gangwon Yongchupokpo Falls (무릉계곡 용추폭포(강원))

Gangwondo 538, Samhwa-ro, Donghae-si, Gangwon-do Located approximately 2.5 kilometers west of Samhwasa Temple, the entrance of Mureunggyegok Valley, Yongchupokpo Falls is a three-tiered waterfall in a shape of a pot that gets its waters from Cheongoksan Mountain (1,403.7 meters). Located 70 meters below Yongchupokpo Falls is Ssangpokpo Falls, where the water from Yongchupokpo Falls and Bakdalgyegok Valley meets to create a deep and beautiful base.

Gangwon Provincial Arboretum (강원도립화목원)

Gangwondo 24, Hwamokwon-gil, Chuncheon-si, Gangwon-do Gangwon Provincial Arboretum, which is operated by Gangwon-do Provincial Government, was opened in 1999 to provide a recreation forest for the community to relaxa and learn about nature in the middle of the city. It comprises about 30 themed gardens, such as the four-season botanical garden, subtropical plant garden, succulent plant garden, and topiary garden, and holds some 1,800 species of plants. Visitors can appreciate a variety of seasonal flowers, exotic scenery, and interesting attractions. Furthermore, visitors can also enjoy flower-viewing on the cherry blossom trail and at the royal azalea garden in spring; avoid heat at the fountain plaza and in the metasequoia forest in summer; enjoy the chrysanthemum exhibition in autumn; and escape the cold inside a glass greenhouse in winter. Within the arboretum is The Forest Museum, which comprises the permanent exhibition hall designed with the theme of Gangwon-do's forest, including animals, plants, and mountain village life, the special exhibition hall, the 4D theater, and others. Other charming places include the Botanic Garden, consisting of an aquatic botanical garden, which is in harmony with a pond, artificial falls, and a pavilion, as well as the Children's Garden that serves as a nature playground for children.

Gangwon Hyuhyuam Hermitage (휴휴암(강원))

Gangwondo 3-16, Gwangjin 2-gil, Yangyang-gun, Gangwon-do This hermitage is located by the sea at Hyeonnam-myeon, Yangyang-gun, Gangwon-do. Its name reflects its dedication to the value of rest by freedom from the troubles of mundane life. The temple was built in 1997 by the monk Hongbeop as a small Buddha hall named Myojeokjeon Hall, but the discovery of a large rock shaped like a reclining Avalokiteshvara in 1999 made the temple a popular site for prayers. A large rock named Yeonhwadae, named after its shape of a lotus flower in bloom, is located below the Myojeokjeon Hall near the sea. Yeonhwadae is a great place to see the reclining Avalokiteshvara and turtle-shaped rock in the area, and many other tourists flock to see the interesting rock formations of the area, like toe rocks, foot rock, and fist rock. Lucky visitors can catch a glimpse of schools of big-scaled redfin surfacing to feed at the beach. Hyuhyuam Hermitage is also home to Myojeokjeon Hall, Darani Cave Buddha Hall, Gwaneum Buddhist Bell, and a statue of the Avalokiteshvara. The Avalokiteshvara statue, in particular, enjoys great popularity from its hilltop vantage point, having the blue seas of the East Sea to its back.

Gangseo Marsh Ecological Park (강서습지생태공원)

Seoul 279-23, Yangcheon-ro 27-gil, Gangseo-gu, Seoul The Gangseo Marsh Ecological Park is an eco-park located on the Hangang River between the southern side of Banghwadaegyo Bridge and southern side of Haengjudaegyo Bridge. Established in July 2007, the park is partly comprised of low wetlands, freshwater lakes, and various aquatic plants. Eco-trails wind around the park through reed areas, around willow trees, and past the migratory bird observation. At the park, visitors can watch and learn about a variety of migratory birds during summer and winter or join one of the park’s organized eco-education programs.

Gangneunghyanggyo Local Confucian School (강릉향교)

Gangwondo 29 Myeongnyun-ro, Gangneung-si, Gangwon-do Hyanggyo (local Confucian school) is an educational institution from the Joseon era. It housed memorial tablets for esteemed Confucian scholars, such as Confucius and Mencius, and hosted commemorative services. Gangneunghyanggyo consists of traditional hanok buildings, including Daeseongjeon Shrine, used for rites; Myeongryundang Lecture Hall, a space for education; and the East (Dongjae) and West (Seojae) Dormitories, where students resided. Today, Seokjeon (rite to honor Confucius and Confucian scholars) is held every spring and fall.

Gangneung Solhyang Arboretum (강릉 솔향수목원)

Gangwondo 156 Sumogwon-gil, Gujeong-myeon, Gangneung-si, Gangwon-do Gangneung Solhyang Arboretum was built in 2008 and opened on October 30, 2013 in Gujeong-ri, Gujeong-myeon. The arboretum was formed around the scenic Yongsogol Valley and the foothills of Chilseongsan Mountain, which still preserves the prestigious Geumgang pine tree forest. The arboretum spreads across an area of 78.5 ha and is organized in 25 themes that boast a total of 220,000 plants of 1,127 different species. Visitors can enjoy a wide variety of scenery that change with season as well as themed areas such as eco-forest path dense with a colony of ginger trees and bamboos, pine forest square, wildflower gardens and more. The main attraction of this arboretum is the walking path named "Breath of Thousand Years Healing Path."

Gangneung Moraenae Hangwa Village (Galgol Hangwa) (강릉 모래내한과마…

Gangwondo 20 Hangwamaeul-gil, Sacheon-myeon, Gangneung-si, Gangwon-do Gangneung Moraenae Hangwa Village enterprise specializes in producing hangwa (traditional Korean sweets). These sweets are crafted using age-old methods that have been passed down through generations in the village. Additionally, visitors have the oppotunity to sign up for a traditional hangwa-making experience, although it is important to note that reservations must be made in advance via telephone. The enterprise is conveniently located 12 kilometers from Gangneung Station, a mere 15-minute drive by car.

Gangneung Coffee Street (강릉커피거리)

Gangwondo 20-1 Changhae-ro 14beon-gil, Gangneung-si, Gangwon-do Having gained much attention for coffee expertise through Animok Cafe Street since the 1980s, Gangneung in Gangwon State is the first local district in Korea to host a coffee festival and support coffee artisans as well as promote development of coffee related facilities and content such as coffee museum, coffee street, coffee factory, barista academy, and more. With almost all coffee shops in the area roasting their own coffee beans, Gangneung is well-recognized as the "city of coffee."

Gangneung Boksakkot Village (강릉 복사꽃마을)

Gangwondo 527-3, Sillicheon-ro, Gangneung-si, Gangwon-do Gangneung Boksakkot Village blooms with peach blossoms each spring. The village is criss-crossed by Hacheon and Sillicheon Streams, which can be crossed by log bridges built long ago by the residents. These precious log bridges are sometimes removed for protection during the rainy summer season, and then put back out when the stream level lowers. Boksakkot Village provides a wonderful glimpse into the rural agricultural lifestyle of Korea. Visitors can pick their own fruit directly from the tree to enjoy right away, as well as make a scarecrow or spread green tea fertilizer around the trees to help them grow. The village is also the venue for an annual peach blossom festival in April, and a scarecrow festival in August.

Gangneung Anbandegi Tourist Farm (강릉안반데기관광농원)

Gangnam (강남)

Seoul Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul Gangnam Subway Station area is the prime district for those living south of the Hangang River. Gangnam-daero Avenue links Teheran-ro Road in the east to Jamsil and Sadang in the west. Kyobo Tower Crossroad connects Express Terminal to Noryangjin and west of Seoul. Hannam-daegyo Avenue in the north extends to the north of the Hangang River. A southward direction leads to metropolitan areas such as Seongnam, passing Yangjae and Bundang. Many people tend to gather at Gangnam Subway Station, as the location is geographically and commercially suitable as a meeting point for social gatherings, events, or personal engagements. Hence, during the weekdays it is usually crowded in the evenings while on weekends, areas around Gangnam Subway Station exit numbers 10 and 11, as well as City Theatre, and Giordano are often bustling with people. Visitors travel to Gangnam to take advantage of its convenient transportation, fashion malls, movie theatres, and bookstores. Gangnam-gu Office operates Gangnam Tourist Information Center to offer tourist information to international and domestic visitors and hands-on activities related to tourism. Also, the center operates Medical Tour Center which introduces Gangnam-gu’s specializing hospitals and medical treatment as well as Hallyu Experience Hall.

Gangmun Beach (강문해변)

Gangju Pond (강주연못)

Gyeongsangnamdo Yeha-ri, Jeongchon-myeon, Jinju-si, Gyeongsangnam-do Gangju Pond is the orgin of the current Jinjuseong Fortress. It is unknown when the pond was first built, but the trees that grow around the pond are 500-600 years old, attesting to its history. During summer, the pond is filled with lotus blossoms, and it is a popular picnic location for students. The area around the pond was designated as an ecolocial park in 2004, creating a space for locals to relax and learn about the environment.
