Taehwagang River (태화강)

Ulsan Mugeo-dong, Nam-gu, Ulsan Taehwagang River cuts across the city of Ulsan from the west to east and originates from Tapgolsaem Spring on Baegunsan Mountain. The 47.54-kilometer-long river passes through downtown Ulsan and empties out into Ulsan Bay on the East Sea. Not just a symbol of pride for the people of Ulsan, the river has long since been a precious commodity that has played a pivotal role in Ulsan culture and history. There are several attractions and amenities near the river such as a bamboo forest park, grassy fields, a pampas grass colony, trails, and exercise facilities. The river itself is home to many freshwater fish, while the riverside area is a famous habitat for migratory birds.

Taehwagang National Garden (태화강 국가정원)

Ulsan 154 Taehwaganggukgajeongwon-gil, Jung-gu, Ulsan The Taehwagang River cuts across the heart of Ulsan and flows into Ulsan Bay, which is connected to the East Sea. The river basin, which stretches 36 kilometers from east to west and 28 kilometers from north to south, is mostly comprised of mountainous terrain, but there is fertile land on both sides of the river and at the southern end of the river. The river is presently an important source of drinking water for the citizens of Ulsan.The field around the midpoint of Taehwagang River was left abandoned for a long time before it was founded as Taehwagang National Garden, preserving nature while providing a resting spot to the citizens of Ulsan. The garden is over twice the size of Yeouido Park in Seoul, and consists of natural water and a lush bamboo forest, known as Simnidae Forest, along with canola and forage barley fields. Simnidae Forest was once in danger of demolition as part of the government's flood control plans but remains preserved thanks to community efforts. Taehwagang Donggulpia (태화강동굴피아)

Visitors can catch a glimpse of Ulsan's history and way of life during that era. Outside the caves, there is an artificial falls, and inside, various experiential zones such as the Cave Adventure Zone, Digital Sketch Experience Zone, and Lighting Art Zone offer diverse interactive experiences.

Taehaksan Recreational Forest (태학산자연휴양림)

Chungcheongnamdo 188, Donmaru 1-gil, Dongnam-gu, Cheonan-si, Chungcheongnam-do Taehaksan Mountain is located south of the borders of Sucheol-ri, Asan; Samtae-ri, and Maedang-ri in Cheonan. The mountain is known for the Rock-carved Standing Buddha (Treasure No. 407), which displays typical patterns of Buddha statues from the Goryeo era. The mountain gets its name from its shape that resemble a dancing crane. Native flowers and trees are scattered throughout the mountain, and the park's dense pine forest makes this park a great family vacation destination.

Ssamzigil (쌈지길)

Seoul 44 Insadong-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul Ssamzigil is an Insa-dong landmark and a shopping mall specializing in crafts. It is a place where the traditions of Korea come together with its present. Follow the paths that lead seamlessly from the lower floors to the upper floors and browse the small craft shops that inhabit the floors. You can find both works of traditional craft and contemporary craft here. Some craft shops also offer craft experiences, and one can also find restaurants and galleries within the complex.

Gyeongsangbukdo Taeha-ri, Seo-myeon, Ulleung-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do Taeha Coastal Trail can be reached by crossing the pedastrian bridge next to Hwangtogul Cave. While crossing the bridge, visitors can enjoy murals of Taeha Village and a photo zone. Taeha Coastal Trail is made up of trachyte and agglomerate rocks, and boasts beautiful coastal scenery due to the unique topography eroded by the wind. It is also where one can observe tafoni, a honeycomb-shaped rocks that weathered by the reaction of salts contained in sea breezes. By taking the Taeha Hyangmok Tour Monorail for about 6 minutes and walking along the trail for about 20 minutes, visitors will reach Ulleungdo Lighthouse (Taeha Lighthouse) and the Hyangmok Geo Skywalk. Junipers in Daepunggam Cliff grew in weathered soil formed in the cracks of columnar joints, creating a unique ecological environment isolated from inland areas for a very long time. Due to its significance, Junipers were designated as natural monuments.

Taedo Islands (태도)

Jeollanamdo 25, Sangtaedo-gil, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do Taedo Islands, located between Hongdo Island and Gageodo Island, comprises three islands. The island in the middle is called Sangtaedo Island, the island next in line is Jungtaedo Island, and the last is Hataedo, the southernmost island located nearest to Gageodo Island. Deep and clear waters surrounding the islands make for a perfect habitat for marine life. Taedo Islands are popular for seaweed that grows naturally on the rocks, often collected by hanyeo (woman divers). People on Taedo Islands have great respect for nature and perform rituals every year on Seollal (Lunar New Year's Day) for prosperity and safety at sea.

Splas Resom (스플라스 리솜)

Chungcheongnamdo 45-7, Oncheondanji 3-ro, Yesan-gun, Chungcheongnam-do Splas Resom, previously called Resom Spa Castle, is Korea’s first membership spa resort. Spa Castle is located in Yesan, Chungcheongnam-do, which is only an hour and a half drive away from Seoul. It is within 30 minutes drive from beautiful mountains, the western seas, and close to plenty of cultural tourist attractions. Splas Resom uses waters from the Deoksan hot springs, whose waters have been enjoyed by Koreans for six hundred years. The resort is equipped with a large banquet hall, seminar room, and a relaxation complex that includes everything from a cultural arts plaza, to a garden, and walking trails. Spirited Garden (생각하는 정원)

Jejudo 675, Nokchabunjae-ro, Jeju-si, Jeju-do Spirited Garden is home to hundreds of bonsai plants in a natural garden with the theme of oreum (volcanic cone) and water. The name changed from Bunjae Arpia in 2007 to commemorate the 15th anniversary after opening and to renew the garden as an international garden. The history of the garden started in 1963 when Seong Beom-yeong, the founder of the garden, came to Jeju and cultivated the wasteland full of rocks. The garden came into the international spotlight as the beautiful space was created from the wastelands by a single farmer. The garden has been visited by many honored public figures such as Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao from China, Nakasone from Japan, Kim Yongsun from North Korea and others. Currently, about 400 planted trees are on display. Also, visitors can see various facilities including stone walls and stone towers stacked with Jeju volcanic stones, the largest artificial waterfall in Jeju, and a pond filled with large carp at the base of the the waterfall.

Taebaeksan National Park (태백산 국립공원)

Gangwondo 4778, Taebaeksan-ro, Taebaek-si, Gangwon-do Taebaeksan Mountain range encompasses several peaks such as Yeongbong Peak (alt. 1,560 m), where in the past, people would conduct rites to venerate Heaven at Cheonjedan Altar; Janggunbong Peak (alt. 1,567 m), Munsubong Peak (alt. 1,517 m), and its summit of Hambaeksan Mountain (alt. 1,572 m). Taebaeksan Mountain serves as a home to diverse wild animals and plants, including several endangered species. The higher plains are covered with alpine vegetation. The mountain becomes hot pink with mountain rhododendron and azalea in the spring; green with thick forest and pristine waters in the summer; rainbow colored with changing leaves in the fall; and white with snow in the winter.

Taebaek Sangjang-dong Mural Village (태백 상장동 벽화마을)

Gangwondo 64, Sangjangnam-gil, Taebaek-si, Gangwon-do Taebaek Sangjang-dong Mural Village, also called “Nambu Village”, is located in Sangjang-dong, Taebaek-si as the name refers. The village has been improved upon by residents who volunteered and shared their artistic talents to participate in Taebaek-si’s new village movement in 2011. Each alley throughout the village gives a unique and refreshing ambience that created a turning point in the village. Also, valuable events such as ‘Yeontan (briquette) painting contest’ are held for students and families to participate in and share their warm hearts. The Central Inland Region Train (O-Train), which began operating as of April 12, 2013 by Korail, stops in Taebaek-si, so tourists can easily reach the mural village via train.

Busan 35 Centum nam-daero, Haeundae-gu, Busan Spaland Centum City has the merit of being both a traditional Korean-style public bath and an urban Japanese-style public bath. Gangwondo 38-33, Guwau-gil, Taebaek-si, Gangwon-do Guwau Village is located below Pijae Hill (also called Samsuryeong) at the entrance to Maebongsan Mountain. The village got its name because its topography resembles the scenery of nine cows peacefully lying around. The Alpine Botanical Garden is located 800-900 meters above sea level and protects the endangered alpine plant species from disappearing. The botanical garden also offers visitors an opportunity to conveniently observe some rare flowers and plants. In August, when the sunflowers are in full bloom, the Taebaek Sunflower Festival is held at Guwau Village. In addition to celebrating the area’s wide array of colorful flowers, the festival also has a variety of attractions such as a drawing exhibition, a photo exhibition, and an environmental sculpture exhibition using repurposed materials.
