Yonghwasan National Recreational Forest (국립 용화산자연휴양림)

Gangwondo 294, Sayeogol-gil, Sabuk-myeon, Chuncheon-si, Gangwon-do A recreational forest established at the foot of Yonghwasan Mountain (878 m) in Sabuk-myeon, Chuncheon Yonghwasan Mountain has been selected one of the best 100 mountains in Korea by the Korea Forest Service and is well-known for the TV program in which BTS members climbed it in 2020. Yonghwasan Recreational Forest is home to needle leaf trees and broadleaf trees, such as pine, oak, birch, and larch, and has a clean atmosphere of the natural environment along with the clear valley. It is equipped with various convenient facilities, such as accommodation, campground, hiking road, trail, and forest park amid healing nature. Yonghwasan Recreational Forest is ideal for not only camping and hiking but also forest leisure and sports activities. It runs Forest Experience Center, which is an indoor forest leisure and sports activity facility that can be used regardless of the weather and season. It provides various experience activities, such as Vertical Slide where visitors will experience falling straight down, Zip Zag where visitors wearing safety equipment will experience a zipline-type ride along the railway, Rope Adventure where visitors will complete a course of a rope and a suspension bridge, and Design Rock Climbing consisting of various difficulty levels. In the open air, there are leisure and sports facilities, such as Artificial Rock Climbing Site, Flying Squirrel (Quick Jump), and Flying in the Forest (Zipline). Besides, it provides the wooden crafts experience and the forest guide program.

Yonghwa Beach (용화해변)

Gangwondo Yonghwa-ri, Samcheok-si, Gangwon-do Reaching only 1 kilometer in length and located 24 kilometers away from downtown Samcheok-si, Yonghwa Beach offers a serene atmosphere. In addition to Yonghwacheon Stream that runs out through the beach and a lush pine forest to its back, the beach boasts a scenic view with a half-moon shaped shoreline and unique rock formations on both sides. The beach is mostly visited by those looking forward to a quiet vacation by a fishing village and families with children who prefer shallow water.

Yongheunggung Palace (용흥궁)

Incheon 16-1, Dongmunan-gil 21beon-gil, Ganghwa-gun, Incheon Yongheunggung Palace is where King Cheoljong (r. 1849-1863) used to live before his ascension to throne. The chief of Ganghwa County, Jeong Gi-se, enlarged the original residence and named it Yongheunggung (meaning palace of the rising dragon) in the 4th year of King Cheoljong’s reign. Its architectural features include a paljak (traditional Korean half-hipped roof) and supporting columns rendered in Jusimpo style, the column brackets placed only on top of the columns. The palace was built in the tradition of dwelling houses such as the Yeongyeongdang and Nakseonjae houses in Changdeokgung Palace, so the palace buildings give off a simple and plain atmosphere. Within the precincts of the palace are a memorial stone and a monument house indicating that the palace used to be the old home of King Cheoljong.

Yongdusan Park (용두산공원)

Busan 37-55 Yongdusan-gil, Jung-gu, Busan Situated at the heart of Busan, Yongdusan Park is famous for its escalators, which connect the Nampo-dong area with the park. The park has a great view of the Busan Port and the Yeongdo area. Notable sights in the area include the Busan Tower, the Statue of Admiral Yi Sunsin, a bell pavilion, a flower clock, and a sculpture of a dragon. The observatory on the Busan Tower offers an expansive view of Busan’s city center, the Busan Port, and the South Port at the distance. The view of the city at night is also not to be missed. Nearby tourist sites include many of Busan’s famous sights, from Gwangbok-dong Cultural & Fashion Street to Jagalchi and Gukje Markets.

Yongdusan Jagalchi Special Tourist Zone (용두산 자갈치 관광특구)

Busan 52, Jagalchihaean-ro, Jung-gu, Busan Yongdusan Jagalchi Special Tourist Zone is an attractive tourism area embracing history and culture. Vendors in the traditional market welcome tourists with their warm hearts, selling their famous street food such as rice cake, ssiat hotteok (sugar-filled seeded griddlecake), bibim dangmyeon (spicy glass noodles), pat juk (red bean porridge), and pat bingsu (shaved ice with sweetened red beans). Bosu-dong and 40-Step Culture & Tourism Themed Street also show the history of each street to people traveling in the area. Including Yongdusan Park, the special tourist zone includes traditional markets like Jagalchi Market, Gukje Market, and Bupyeong Market, and historical cultural resources like Yeongdodaegyo Bridge, Bosu Book Street, and Busan Modern History Museum. The restoration of Yeongdodaegyo Bridge in November 2013 has created a unique sightseeing attraction that is hard to see in other regions and has emerged as a new famous spot. Bupyeong (Kkongtong) Market and Gukje Market are also special markets full of things to see. Various festivals including Busan International Film Festival, Busan Jagalchi Festival, and Busan Christmas Tree Festival are held for all kinds of visitors. The view from Yongdusan Park and fresh seafood from Jagalchi Market, as well as peaceful strolling at Bosu Book Street and 40-Steps make a trip to Busan memorable and happy. Yongduam Rock (용두암)

Jejudo Yongduam-gil, Jeju-si, Jeju-do Situated on the northern coast in downtown Jeju, Yongduam Rock is an estimated 10-meter-tall stone that has been worn down over time by strong winds and waves into a shape resembling a dragon's head. There are many legends surrounding the rock. One legend has it that a dragon stealing precious jade from Hallasan Mountain was shot down by an arrow from the mountain deity. When he fell down, his body immediately sank into the ocean and his head rapidly froze looking at the sky. Another legend has it that a white horse, who dreamed of being a dragon and ascending to the sky, came to be caught by a soldier and froze into the rock. From Yongduam Rock, visitors can see haenyeo (female divers) working at catching seafood. Near the rock are various cafes, bars, and restaurants. The coastal road between here and Aewol-eup is popular among couples. Cafes and seafood restaurants began to appear there five years ago and now form a pleasant café village.

Yongdae National Recreational Forest (국립 용대자연휴양림)

Gangwondo 7, Yeonhwadong-gil, Inje-gun, Gangwon-do Yongdae National Recreational Forest features rivers that flow from Maebongsan Mountain (alt. 1,271 m) and Cheoljeongbong Mountain (alt. 1,172 m). The forest consists of deciduous trees such as oak, linden, and birch, as well as pine trees. Not only does the forest boast a beautiful landscape all-year-round, but also serves as a habitat for wild animals of various species, including rabbits, deer, squirrels, raccoons, and even lenoks, which are designated as endangered species.

Yongchugyegok Valley (용추계곡)

Gyeonggido 223 San, Seungan-ri, Gapyeong-eup, Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do Located in Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do, this picturesque valley takes its source from the 900-meter high Kalbongsan Mountain, winding around Ongnyeobong Peak. Stretching over 24 km, it is home to nine remarkable sights, earning it the nicknames "Nine Okgye Valleys" and "Nine Yongchu Valleys." Blanketed by pine nut forests, the valley’s clear waters flow past rocky walls and ridges, forming natural pools along its course. A notable highlight is the 5-meter tall Yongchupokpo Falls about 6 kilometers upstream, accompanied by a legend of a dragon’s ascent to heaven; a deep groove in the adjacent sloping rock is believed to be the dragon’s resting spot. Flanked by Yumyeongsan, Jungmisan, and Eobisan Mountains, the valley offers an excellent short hiking route for a half-day excursion.

Yongcheondonggul Cave [UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site] (…

Jejudo Woljeong-ri, Jeju-si, Jeju-do Yongcheondonggul Cave is the most typical form of lava tunnel on Jeju Island and with a total length of approximately 2,470 meters, it is one of the largest. It has a unique topology and rich limestone formations such as lava terrace, lava shelves, lava waterfalls, and 140 meters of lava rolls. In particular, a range of carbonate formations such as straw soda, stalactite, columns, flowstones, cave corals, and aragonite crystals can be found inside this large cave that also contains a lake. This unique cave is astounding in terms of its geological value and beauty. There are also items that can be found throughout the cave that appear to have been brought in by people who lived on the island long ago, such as pieces of pottery, animal bones, ironware, charcoal and other substances. * The UNESCO World Heritage inscribed Geomunoreum Lava Tube System consists of Bengdwigul, Manjanggul, Gimnyeonggul, Yongcheondonggul and Dangcheomuldonggul Caves.

Yongbongsan Mountain (용봉산)

Chungcheongnamdo Sangha-ri, Hongbuk-eup, Hongseong-gun, Chungcheongnam-do Yongbongsan Mountain is relatively small mountain, reaching a x_height of just 381 meters, but is filled with beautiful rocky outcroppings and peaks. The mountain's name comes from its ridgeline, resembling a dragon with the head of a phoenix. The mountain is home to a wide range of Korean plants, including Korean pine trees, and cultural heritages such as Yongbongsa Temple.

Yi Sunsin Square (이순신광장)

Jeollanamdo 74 Jungang-ro, Yeosu-si, Jeollanam-do Yi Sunsin Square is located in Jungang-dong, Yeosu-si and contains the history and achievements of General Yi Sunsin. The square is the starting point for the history culture tourism belt and the surrounding artifacts and in May hosts the Turtle Ship Festival. The main attraction in the plaza is the life-size turtle ship which visitors can not only view from the outside but also the inside. There are also various performances on Saturdays in the plaza.

Yi Sun-Sin Park (이순신공원)

Gyeongsangnamdo 205, Mendehaean-gil, Tongyeong-si, Gyeongsangnam-do Yi Sun-sin Park is located at the foot of Mangilbong Peak. The name of the park was changed from Hansan Battle Memorial Park to Yi Sun-sin Park. The park has a statue of Admiral Yi Sun-sin, an observation deck, a walking-path, a traditional cultural hall, and Hagikjeong Pavilion.

Yi Chungmugong's Byeokpajin Battle Monument (이충무공 벽파진 전첩비)

Jeollanamdo 90 Byeokpa-gil, Gogun-myeon, Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do Yi Chungmugong's Byeokpajin Battle Monument, located at Byeokpajeong was built to commemorate the victory of Admiral Yi Sun-sin and honor the souls of martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the battle of Myeongnyang. The epitaph of the monument, penned by Lee Eunsang, features the calligraphy by Son Jae Hyeong. Although just a small fishing port now, Byeokpajin was a crucial port connecting Jindo and Haenam before the Jindo Bridge was built in 1984. It still holds a great historical significance.
