Jusanji Pond [National Geopark] (주산지 (청송 국가지질공원))

Gyeongsangbukdo Jusanji-ri, Cheongsong-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do Jusanji Pond is a small reservoir located in Juwangsan National Park. It is a man-made pond that was dug out in August, 1720 and completed in October the year after. The pond has been used as a source of water for agricultural use as well as for drinking water. Even though it is small in size, about 200 meters long and 8 meters deep, the pond has never dried up from any drought. 150-year-old willow trees are rooted in the pond, which makes a fantastic balance with the surroundings, creating a picturesque scenery found nowhere else.

Jusangjeolli Cliff of Mudeungsan Mountain (무등산 주상절리대)

Gwangju San 354-1, Yongyeon-dong, Dong-gu, Gwangju The Jueangjeolli cliffs are rock pillars of various hexagonal shapes that seem as if they were hand carved. The Jusangjeolli cliffs of Mudeungsan Mountain consist of Seoseokdae, Ipseokdae, and Gyubong Rocks formed about 70 million years ago. Ipseokdae and Gyubong Rocks are both of a distinct pillar shape as they have been heavily weathered, and Seoseokdae, which was less weathered, looks like a folding screen. The Neodeolgeong (cluster of rocks), which sit on the mountain slope, were made when stone pillars collapsed. The standing rocks and Neodolgeong have been designated as Natural Monuments due to their rarity and uniqueness.

Jusangjeolli Cliff of Gangdong Hwaam Village (강동 화암 주상절리)

Ulsan Hwaam-gil, Buk-gu, Ulsan Jusangjeolli are columnar rock formations with cross sections in hexagonal or triangular shapes. The jusangjeolli at the shore of Hwaam Maeul Village were created by basalt lava that erupted in the Tertiary period of the Cenozoic Era about 20 million years ago. The columnar basalt formations were created as the lava cooled and shrank into cracks. The rocks look like wood stacked horizontally or vertically en masse. The length of the columns average around 20 meters and diagonally are about 50 centimeters at the longest cross-section. Of the columnar lava formations on the East Coast, the Jusangjeolli in Hwaam are the oldest, so it is academically invaluable. Shaped in various angles, the rocks also offer a great landscape for sightseeing.

Jungwonpokpo Falls (중원폭포)

Gyeonggido Yeonsu-ri, Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do Jungwonpokpo Falls is located at the eastern edge of Jungwon Valley in Jungwonsan Mountain, Yangpyeong. A 15-minute walk from the parking lot through the valley pathway will take the visitors to the three-tiered waterfalls. Rather a small waterfall less than 10 meters high, Jungwonpokpo Falls is surrounded by cliffs with fantastic rock formations that look like folding screens. The plunge pool is also impressive with its depth and x_width. Located nearby is another waterfall known as Chimapokpo Falls.

Jungoe Park (중외공원)

Gwangju 52, Haseo-ro, Buk-gu, Gwangju Jungoe Park is one of the nation's most famous leisure spaces. There is a children's grand park, the Olympic Garden, and the Olympic Monument. The children's grand park is especially popular on weekends and holidays. There is also a folk museum, an education center, and the Biennale Exhibition Hall in the Biennale & Museum section of the park. The park is most popular during fall for its beautiful foliage. In addition, the Rainbow Bridge is a symbol of the Biennale and was installed during the 1st Gwangju Biennale.

Jungni Beach (중리해수욕장)

Jeollanamdo Jungtong-ri, Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do Jungni Beach is the best beach for swimming in the sea on Bogildo Island. The white sandy beach is long and the depth of the water is shallow enough for people to enjoy, even at 200 meters into the water. The beach is also lined with pine trees that provide shade from the hot sun. The road to the beach is also paved, making it easy to reach. Within a little distance from Jungni Beach there is a small and beautiful beach called Tongni Beach. The silver sand is lined with pine trees and the water is shallow. During summer, visitors can access the shower booths, water fountains, and convenience store at Jungni Beach and Tongni Beach. Accommodations and restaurants can be found in the nearby village. Approximately 1.5 kilometers away, there is an evergreen forest (Natural Monument No. 40) and a river with large black rocks stretching 1 kilometer.

Jungmyeongjeon Hall (중명전)

Seoul 41-11, Jeongdong-gil, Jung-gu, Seoul Located near Deoksugung Palace, Jungmyeongjeon Hall is a red-brick modern Western-style building. It was built in 1899 as the imperial library of the Korean Empire. After Deoksugung Palace caught on fire in 1904, the place became the temporary residence of Emperor Gojong. It also witnessed the tragic part of history in which the infamous Eulsa Treaty (Japan-Korea Protectorate Treaty), an illegal treaty forced by Japan, was signed in 1905. Its exhibition hall serves as a place for historical education.

Jungmisan Recreational Forest (중미산자연휴양림)

Gyeonggido 1152, Jungmisan-ro, Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do Jungmisan Recreational Forest unfolds at the end of a lovely drive along the famous Nongdachigogae Road, the highest ridge road in the vicinity of Seoul. The forest boasts a striking landscape of thick groves of trees and a view overlooking the Namhangang River. During some mornings, the forest’s log cabins are veiled by a thick fog, further adding to the beautiful natural ambience. Rising 834 meters above sea level, Jungmisan Mountain is a popular sunrise destination frequented by throngs of hikers every year. Thick forests of pine trees create a rooftop of branches from spring to fall. Being surrounded by the tall mountains of Baegunsan, Yumyeongsan, and Yongmunsan, Jungmisan Mountain feels like it is in the inner mountainous region of Gangwon-do, although it is close to Seoul. The forest has log cabins that can accommodate groups of 4 to 10 people as well as campsites that complement the surrounding natural environment. Visitors can enjoy a comfortable walk through the trees on a trail that winds through the heart of the forest.

Jungmisan Observatory (중미산 천문대)

Gyeonggido 1268, Jungmisan-ro, Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do Situated only 40 minute's drive from Seoul, the Jungmisan Observatory is nestled within Jungmisan Recreational Forest 437 kilometers above sea level. In addition to the beautiful natural scenery, the main draw of this particular location is that there is no other place near Seoul as this forest where one can get an excellent view of the night sky. From Seoul, one might expect to see about three stars on a good day, while at the Jungmisan Observatory one can typically observe over 3,000 stars. Jungmisan Observatory provides an experiential learning center that offers astronomy programs for children, including preschoolers. Children can gain a deeper understanding of space and basic astronomy through various programs, such as stargazing. In addition to the astronomy programs, the observatory also offers forest bathing, forest ecology, and insect learning programs along with the nearby recreational forest.

Gyeongsangnamdo 26, Junam-ro 101beon-gil, Uichang-gu, Changwon-si, Gyeongsangnam-do Junam Reservoir features a large migratory bird sanctuary spread throughout three reservoirs (Sannam, Junam, and Dongpan), and is one of Korea’s top nature-watching areas for visitors. It operates Ramsar Culture Center, ecology educational hall, bird-watching site and Junam Environment School free of charge and a guide tour is available to explore the reservoir with ecological explanations. In addition, a lotus field and flower road can be visited in the reservoir.

Jumunjin Port (주문진항)

Gangwondo 1758-22 Haean-ro, Gangneung-si, Gangwon-do Jumunjin Port, one of the main fishing ports on the east coast, is home to over 350 fishing boats. The East Sea, where the warm and cold waters meet, is excellent for catching many different types of fish including lance fish, pollack, herring, and anchovy, as well as squid. Fish caught in the area is often served fresh or cooked at nearby seafood restaurants.

Jumunjin Lighthouse (주문진 등대)

Gangwondo 24-7, Yetdeungdae-gil, Gangneung-si, Gangwon-do Established on March 20, 1918, Jumunjin Lighthouse was the first lighthouse in the Gangwon region. The lighthouse is 3 meters in diameter at the base and 10 meters in x_height with white mortar covering the exterior wall. The building shows the early structure of Korean lighthouse architecture, which is a great value in terms of the nation’s architectural history. The light signal blinks at 15-second intervals and can be seen from 37 kilometers away. The original lighthouse was destroyed during the Korean War but was rebuilt in 1951.
